Our ESG Priorities

Since our founding in 1882, Owens & Minor has remained committed to our teammates, customers, and communities where we conduct business. We recognize the need to identify, prioritize, and manage ESG impacts from our operations.

In 2021, we completed our first ESG materiality assessment to identify and prioritize topics most relevant to our key stakeholders. Using the results of this assessment, we developed a framework to align ESG risks and opportunities with our overall business strategy. Our ESG Framework forms the basis of our program, integrating the priorities identified in our materiality assessment into key aspects of our operations. This framework is grounded in our Mission and emphasizes the importance of incorporating ESG commitments into our culture and values.

Promoting Environmental Stewardship

We work to minimize the impact of our operations on the environment. To minimize climate risk, we proactively review our facilities and supply chain and monitor for climate-related threats and opportunities to ensure continuity of our supply and operations. We manage our carbon footprint through fleet efficiency goals and a dedicated emissions reduction working group. Owens & Minor is a signatory of the Health Sector Climate Pledge, seeking to cut emissions from the Health Sector by 50% by 2030 and achieving Net Zero by 2050. We seek to reduce waste from our operations by improving our packaging and labelling, in-house scrap reuse in manufacturing processes, and by building recycling partnerships with our customers. We strive to responsibly manage water as a shared resource with award-winning wastewater treatment processes and efficiency enhancements in our use of process water.

ESG Governance

To effectively manage the implementation of our ESG strategy, Owens & Minor developed an ESG governance structure designed to define our framework and deliver on our commitments. The Governance & Nominating Committee of the Owens & Minor Board of Directors reviews and has oversight of the Company's ESG programs and practices. The Governance & Nominating Committee and full Board regularly receive reports on the progress of our ESG program. An ESG Governing Board, composed of members of the Executive Leadership Team and the Vice President of Corporate Relations, assists the Governance & Nominating Committee in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to ESG efforts; defines ESG priorities, objectives, and strategy; and oversees and coordinates the implementation of ESG initiatives. An ESG Steering Committee, composed of top-line leadership from business segments across the organization, implements ESG priorities and recommends policies and practices that conform with our ESG strategy.

Climate Resilience Plan

On Earth Day 2022, the White House and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched the Health Sector Climate Pledge, a voluntary commitment to climate resilience and emissions reduction that includes cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. Listening to the needs of our partners and the communities in which we operate, Owens & Minor signed the pledge in service to our mission of Empowering Our Customers to Advance Healthcare. Now, honoring our commitment to the White House and HHS, we are proud to share a Climate Resilience Plan for Continuous Operations outlining our strategies to manage the climate impacts of our business and to identify and address prospective risks to our business brought on by climate change.
